Inspired by this, I decided to try my hand at making some melted styrene Chaos terrain to accompany my in progress Nurgle army. I simply put some random chunks of styrene (of the thick blue insulation variety) onto a CD base and sprayed with a generic cheap black spray. The first attempt was a failure. I used too much spray and the foam just melted into a puddle. The second attempt I didn't spray as much paint and it worked like a charm. I used the end of an old brush to pull some of the molten foam around, which resulted in the stringy gooey look of it. I made some milliput balls of varying sizes for eyeballs and stuck them into the foam, along with a few arms and things from the bitz box. Once dry I painted it. I tried to go for a fleshy sort of look to parts of it, while other parts are just a toxic green mess of disgustingness. The camera flash makes the colours look a tad different. The puddles of toxic goo appear yellow in the pictures, but are actually a bright toxic green in real life. I added some clear shiny nail polish to the eyes and the puddles of goo to give them a sheen, which doesn't really show up in the pictures.
This was an easy and fun project, and I am very pleased with the results. It reminds me of early 90's death metal album colours, which seems fitting for Chaos.
Also note my first squad of Dark Angels making an appearance.

Sci-Fi Storage Tank
A quick post for a piece of scenery I made last year. It's a rusted old storage tank...thing. It was a scratch build from some plastic packaging, a couple dead AA batteries and some stuff from the bitz box. 30mm Warhammer 40,000 minis and 15mm ganger shown for scale.

15mm Shanty Town
A 15mm shanty town is a project I have been wanting to build for awhile now, and I recently finally got around to it. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. The bases are CDs, while the shanties are made of plasticard, Wills OO scale Corrugated Iron, and various little things from the bitz box. The outhouse is an HO model, I think also made by Wills. All the buildings have removable roofs so models can be placed inside.
Anyway, on with the pictures!

New stuff!
Since my last post I have painting and modeling up a storm! I have painted 2 more units of British, a few stands of Mahdists, and made a village and several pieces of rocky terrain for the 10mm Sudan stuff. For my 15mm stuff I made 2 ruined buildings and painted 5 resin buildings from JR Miniatures.
The Sudan village didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, but it will do for now. I made the buildings out of cereal box card, folded into shape, glued together then applied a thin coating of paper mache mix. The flash on the camera shows the unpainted insides of the buildings, but in normal lighting you can't see inside them.
The ruined buildings were made from foamboard, then I covered them in a sort of paper mache mush, and threw on some rocks and sand to taste. I am pretty pleased with the results.
The rocky outcroppings are not pictured because I am not very happy with them. They look decent enough, but the card bases warped quite a lot from the paper mache and subsequent painting. I am going to re-make them in the future, with use for the bases (as I should have done in the first place).
Currently working on another ruined building, a unit of naval brigade for the Sudan, and a platoon of 15mm sci-fi troops from GZG. Production will come to a brief halt, as I will be away for a week to Maryland Deathfest, then visiting a gaming buddy in Vancouver.
Anyway, here are the pics. Yes, I know, I really need better backdrops for my pictures, and I need to work on lighting, focusing etc. Feedback on the minis and terrain is appreciated.
